Pigmentation

Sun damage also referred to as skin pigmentation conditions are caused when the body produces either too much or too little melanin. The result of this is Hyper/Hypo pigmentation which is light or dark marks on the surface of the skin. Hyperpigmentation lesions can be present as sunspots, freckles to melasma and can occur on the face or body in both men and women. Each person’s pigmentation is different and different treatments may be combined to achieve the best outcome.

Your face, hands and chest are the first parts of the body to show signs of ageing as these areas receive so much sun exposure therefore protection is key daily to prevent further damage to the underlying layer of the skin. Genetics, environmental factors, sunlight, UVA/UVB rays, hormonal imbalances and medication all contribute to pigmentation changes in the skin. Skin pigmentation can occur in pregnant women due to the dramatic hormonal change the body goes undergoes. The contraceptive pill can also influence hormone levels that can react with UV rays and cause pigmented areas to occur in the skin.

Depending on the type and location of pigmentation we will recommend either laser or skin treatments combined with topical cosmeceutical products to achieve the best results.

The most common pigmentation conditions include:

Sun spots – also known as age spots and lentignes
Freckles – also known as ephilides
Melasma – brown patches on face
Pigmentation can fall into 3 categories:

Epidermal (superficial) pigmentation – located close to the skin’s surface and caused mainly by sun exposure.
Dermal pigmentation – found in the dermal layer of skin
Combination dermal / epidermal pigmentation – penetrate through both the deeper layers of skin as well as the superficial layers e.g. melasma

Diamond Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical simple way to deeply exfoliate the skin.  It works by gently removing the top layer of the skin (epidermis) and in doing so treats many common skin conditions leaving the fresher younger skin cells at the surface

As well as removing the “rough” layer of skin, microdermabrasion stimulates the collage and elastic production resulting in the skin looking brighter and feeling firmer and smoother

The Diamond Derma system uses various sized stainless steel Diamond encrusted tipped applicator heads which are shaped like a small doughnut, the application heads are attached to a wand which is attached to the vacuum tube

The diamonds gently but effectively buff off the top layer of dead skin cells using an adjustable vacuum suction through the centre of the head

Diamond Derma can be applied to the face, neck, chest, hands, upper arms, bikini line, stomach, back and feet, pretty much anywhere on the body that has any skin conditions that can be treated with Diamond Derma

Diamond Micodermabrasion stimulates the production of collagen and elastic fibres in the skin and be used to:-

  • Improve the texture of the skin

Skin response

Immediately following your treatment your skin will be fresh and bright and may appear pink (this will depend on your individual skin type). Areas of sun damage (age spots/sun spots) are likely to appear darker. This is a good sign and shows that the damaged/pigmented cells have risen to the surface of the skin. It will take a few days for the darker pigmented areas to begin to break down and then you will see the improvement in skin texture and skin colour

You should expect to have a course of between 6-12 treatments for optimal results. It is imperative that the skin is nourished using Dd SkinLove during days following your treatment. It is also vital that you use an SPF following your treatment. There is no down time

Diamond Microdermabrasion is not just for the face

Diamond Derma is a remarkable treatment for the body as well as for the face and can treat:

  • Acne & acne scarring on the body/back/arms
  • Hard and abrasive skin on the ball and heels of the feet
  • Ingrowing hairs (e.g. bikini area)

  • Hands (sun damage/ageing)
